Deep South Pout was founded June 11, 2011 by Jason and Shannon Stoker, and Justin and Nicole Oswalt, in order to provide a retail storefront in Starkville, MS that specialized in fashionable, affordable clothing and accessories. This was a market that the DSP owners felt was underserved in the Starkville area (it was very easy to find high-end, expensive boutiques - and likewise, low-end, inexpensive stores).
Immediately, the store was a huge hit, and within two months, the owners were considering expanding the store. Within three months, we had expanded into the vacant space adjacent to DSP's original location. By the beginning of 2012, the owners realized there was a need for a similar store in the nearby city of Columbus, MS. On March 23, 2012, DSP's Columbus location opened. Around the same time, the space adjacent to the Starkville store became available, and the DSP corporate office and stockroom were moved to that space and the Starkville store was expanded for third time.
Almost instantly, the Columbus store experienced the same explosive growth and the owners began looking for opportunities to expand. The space adjacent to the Columbus store was offered to the owners and the store expanded into that space by Memorial Day weekend of that year. DSP had a record year in 2012, and was offered a third adjacent space in Columbus. The space was secured in August of 2013 for storage and online store expansion.
During the summer of 2013, we created the DSP Social Shop, which is a way for customers to shop directly from the store's Instagram and Facebook accounts. Social Shop grew extraordinarily fast, and has been a groundbreaking and successful way to grow DSP's business. Later that year, DSP revamped its online store at deepsouthpout.com and launched it, and has seen tremendous growth ever since.
It has always been in the hearts of the owners to be charitable with the blessings God has provided. DSP gives 2% of its gross sales to charity - and in October 2013, DSP founded its own non-profit, Reclaimed Project, which focuses on orphan care, adoption, and community empowerment.
It has been an incredibly fast-paced and challenging journey! But it has also been very rewarding. The DSP family has been blessed to have the support of the local communities, its customers, and its friends. DSP strives to give God the glory for all He does with the store and non-profit, for He has been extremely good to the DSP family.
